Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged Game, Writing this review has taken a lot of time. Not because Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Reforged is a bad game, but rather because I found it difficult to comprehend how I felt about it. I was six years old when I played the original game, so I didn't play it like most of the reviewers who have been praising the remaster.

Then, what made me want to review its lovingly improved release? To put it simply, I adore hidden objects and point-and-click games. According to its trailer, there was a fascinating mystery to be solved, one that would enable new players like me to enjoy one of the highly regarded games that served as the model for the point-and-click games we play today.

Despite its shallowness, its illustrative aesthetic piqued my interest more than anything else. No one can dispute that a remarkably beautiful art style goes a long way, especially with these kinds of games, even though I wanted a compelling story to complement what I was watching.

Each scene's richness and vitality restore the once-tired classic to its former splendor. Pictures from a storybook or an old Disney film, such as Sleeping Beauty, came to mind. The hand-drawn essence is still present, even though the imagery in this remaster is richer than what you might see in those examples.

It creates a visually striking and occasionally enthralling experience. This seems important to me because the story moves slowly at times. Despite having a lot on the line, this story moves painfully slowly at times. George Stobbart could use some speed training, even though I've grown to like him despite his cheesy dialogue.

You can quickly switch between the original and modern images to see how much craftsmanship has gone into the remaster's appearance. I frequently found myself doing this to temporarily transport myself back in time to a period when video gaming was at its height.

Its story is also worthy of praise because it keeps you on your toes with its many turns. It could be argued that the story's historical accuracy lends it a level of realism that other fictional works don't.

Without giving too much away, George Stobbart sees a clown kill a man at a neighborhood cafe, which sets off a global adventure. George travels throughout Europe in an attempt to learn more about the Templars after what initially appears to be a tragic but random attack. He plays the part of detective quite well by claiming that this man is merely a tourist, and it seems that he has little motivation other than his obstinate curiosity.

However, this is where things start to go awry for me. The characters have aged poorly, but they are by no means personalityless. Their speech and behavior are very much a reflection of the values and society of the 1990s. Instead of making me laugh, its tongue-in-cheek innuendos frequently made me roll my eyes. Stereotypes that we've grown weary of seeing include the arrogant American, the aristocratic cougar, and the seductive French woman.

Those who have played the original and those who are new to the series seem to be so different because of this. This game is fantastic when viewed through the prism of nostalgia; it can instantly take you back to the middle of the 1990s.

I also have a problem with the audio quality. It's startling. When paired with those gorgeous visuals, the original audio, which has been used without any enhancement, sounds tinny and therefore out of place. Not to mention how terrible the characters' accents are. It's similar to hearing Peter Sellers in every Pink Panther movie; even though I love those films, his terrible French accent contributes to some of their humor.

Still, Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Reforged is a game that I can't help but play. Despite my complaints, I must know the truth about this plot George has discovered, which is a testament to its storytelling. Even though I haven't finished the game yet, I feel like the end is coming.

This has been a fun adventure overall, but it hasn't been without issues. I'm not moved to return to learn more about the franchise or feel a connection to the characters. I will be when George finishes this story. Like so many others, I wish it had been an amazing window into the past. Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Reforged, regrettably, proved to be more evidence that nostalgia is a strong emotion that shapes our perceptions.
