Dark Sky is a unique “narrative RPG deck builder” crafted by Ganymede Games and brought to life by Midwest Games. Throughout my time at Game Grin, I’ve explored numerous deck builders, but it’s rare to encounter one that allows you to maintain your deck rather than resetting it every half hour. This concept may require some adjustment.

The game kicks off… at its conclusion. An enigmatic force is causing spaceships to plummet from the sky, unleashing chaos on the mining planet of Wolf Prime. Home to a diverse array of species from across the galaxy, it falls to a quirky group of misfits to uncover the cause of this calamity and save their world.

Strategic Planning, Smart Moves

• Engage in turn-based card and grid combat, meticulously planning your party’s actions to maximize their abilities and overcome foes.
• Deploy your team—your selection of characters greatly influences your strategy and arsenal for every encounter. 
• Analyze your opponent’s intentions. Maneuver across the grid to evade their strikes or risk exposure for a more advantageous attack.
• Apply debilitating status effects to take advantage of enemy vulnerabilities and combine them for powerful reactions that yield additional benefits.
• One Deck, Infinite Strategies
• Merge your character decks into a combat deck that highlights their strengths. Introduce new cards and unlock formidable upgrades as your characters progress.
• Create new cards for your heroes using resources gathered throughout the campaign.
• Enhance cards through a branching upgrade system, where each card features a distinct progression path for your customization.
• Experiment with various builds! Adjust your decks to refine each hero’s playstyle. Save multiple configurations simultaneously to be prepared for any challenge.

The narrative is highly captivating. The characters are endearing and humorous, and the worldbuilding is rich without overwhelming players with excessive details. The dialogue flows naturally, providing insights into Wolf Prime and its inhabitants, including some unsettling tales; the backstory of “Bloody Tears Gulch” is particularly harrowing, which took me by surprise given the game’s overall tone. The animations are beautifully executed, complemented by a striking art style and impressive card designs.
