The writing is incisive and self-aware, and there are several ways to complete quests based on your abilities—in one playthrough, I hack a locked door to enter the smuggler's hideout, and in another, I charm their coworker. One of the first questions I can ask Hatsuo, a muscular show-off who has heard of wearing shirts but wasn't paying attention at the time, is if his jacket even buttons up. (It doesn't.)

Additionally, it features a tactical turn-based combat system, and each member of my group of anime mercenaries—some of whom are Guild members, while others are affiliates like me—has unique class abilities.

There is a quest line where I travel to the Abyss, where magic leaks out, and discover a multi-leveled horror-fantasy otherworld, but there are also moments when it's similar to the part in Sin City where the sex workers go to war to defend Old Town. Questlines where I'm attempting to find a serial killer or deal with a dispute between the Guild's traditionalists, who hold some antiquated views regarding gender and body modification, and the progressives, who want membership to be open to everyone, are very different from that.

The brothel is a home base that can be upgraded. Even though I'm not in charge of day-to-day operations, I do get to choose whether to construct a diner or privacy booths and whether to hire more janitors or security.
