Might and Magic - Swords of Xeen, It was first made available in 1995 as a "bonus scenario" in the compilation of Might and Magic III, IV, and V, which is known as the "trilogy." It later appeared in a number of other series anthologies as well. A stand-alone version of the game was never released.

The game started out as a mod built on the 1993-released Might and Magic V engine. With story contributions from Ellen Beeman, the modding effort was spearheaded by Catware personalities. The mod gained publisher support as it developed, and a partnership with New World Computing was formed.

Swords of Xeen makes excellent use of several engine peculiarities, such as the ability to transform monsters by combining their regular motion with their assault animation. Additionally, there are programming errors in the game that let the player sidestep around a lot of confrontations.
