RimWorld game, is a science fiction colony simulation game guided by a clever AI storyteller. Drawing inspiration from Dwarf Fortress, Firefly, and Dune, you start with three shipwreck survivors on a remote planet.

You'll need to manage the emotions, needs, injuries, illnesses, and addictions of your colonists. Build your settlement in diverse environments like forests, deserts, jungles, and tundras. Observe how relationships evolve or deteriorate among family members, partners, and spouses.

You can replace damaged limbs and organs with prosthetics, bionics, or biological parts sourced from others. Face off against pirates, tribes, wild animals, enormous insects, and ancient war machines. Create buildings, weapons, and clothing using materials such as metal, wood, stone, cloth, and advanced futuristic resources.

Train and tame adorable pets, useful farm animals, and fierce attack creatures. Engage in trade with passing ships and caravans. Form caravans to fulfill quests, trade, launch attacks on rival factions, or relocate your entire colony.

Navigate through snow, endure storms, and combat fires. Capture refugees or prisoners, persuading them to join your cause or selling them into slavery. Each playthrough offers a new, randomly generated world to explore. Dive into a plethora of exciting mods available on the Steam Workshop. Plus, an intuitive AI tutor is there to help you learn the ropes effortlessly.

RimWorld serves as a unique story generator, crafted to collaboratively weave narratives filled with tragedy, intrigue, and triumph involving imprisoned pirates, struggling colonists, and the harsh realities of survival. The game orchestrates the “random” events that shape your journey, with every thunderstorm, pirate raid, and wandering merchant being a plot twist introduced by the AI Storyteller. You can select from various storytellers: Randy Random brings chaos, Cassandra Classic builds tension, and Phoebe Chillax prefers a more laid-back approach.

Your colonists are not seasoned settlers; they are survivors from a passenger ship that met its end in orbit. Your group might include a noble, an accountant, and a homemaker. You can expand your colony by capturing enemies, purchasing individuals from slave traders, or welcoming refugees, ensuring your community is always a diverse mix.

Each colonist's history influences their abilities and interactions. A nobleman excels in social skills, making him adept at recruiting and negotiating, but he shies away from manual labor. A seasoned farmer knows the ins and outs of agriculture but struggles with research. A brilliant scientist can conduct research with ease but lacks social finesse. Meanwhile, a genetically engineered assassin is a master of killing, though that’s all he’s suited for.

Relationships among colonists can flourish or falter. Each character has opinions about one another, which can lead to love, marriage, infidelity, or conflict. For instance, two of your top colonists might be blissfully married until one develops feelings for the charming surgeon who treated her after a gunshot injury.

The game creates an entire planet that stretches from the poles to the equator. You have the option to land your crash pods in various environments, such as a chilly northern tundra, a dry desert expanse, a lush temperate forest, or a humid equatorial jungle. Each region features unique wildlife, vegetation, diseases, climate conditions, rainfall, mineral resources, and landscapes. The challenges of surviving in a disease-ridden, dense jungle are vastly different from those faced in a barren desert or a frigid tundra with a limited growing season.

Explore the planet freely; you’re not confined to one location. You can assemble a caravan consisting of people, animals, and even prisoners. Rescue former allies from pirate hideouts, participate in peace negotiations, trade with other groups, launch attacks on enemy settlements, and undertake various quests. You also have the option to relocate your entire colony to a new area, utilizing rocket-powered transport pods for quicker travel.

You can also tame and train animals. Adorable pets can lift the spirits of downcast colonists, while farm animals can be utilized for labor, milk, and wool. Fierce creatures can be unleashed on your foes. The game features a wide array of animals, including cats, labrador retrievers, grizzly bears, camels, cougars, chinchillas, chickens, and even some fantastical alien-like beings.

In RimWorld, characters are constantly assessing their environment and circumstances to determine their emotional state. They react to various factors such as hunger, fatigue, witnessing death, the presence of unburied corpses, injuries, darkness, cramped living conditions, and sleeping arrangements. If their stress levels become too high, they may react by lashing out or experiencing a breakdown.

Injuries, infections, prosthetics, and chronic ailments are monitored for each body part, influencing the abilities of characters. For instance, eye injuries can hinder shooting or performing surgeries, while injured legs can slow down movement. Various body parts like hands, brain, mouth, heart, liver, kidneys, stomach, feet, fingers, and toes can suffer from wounds, diseases, or even be absent, each having logical consequences in the game. Different species also have unique anatomical structures; for example, if a deer loses a leg, it can still manage to move on the remaining three, whereas removing a rhino's horn significantly reduces its threat level.

You can restore body parts using prosthetics that range from basic to advanced. A simple peg leg can help Joe Colonist walk again after a mishap with a rhinoceros, but he will still be relatively slow. However, if he invests in a high-end bionic leg from a trader the following year, Joe transforms into an incredibly fast runner. Additionally, you have the option to extract, sell, purchase, and transplant internal organs.
