Every ten years, the Mka tribe dispatches caravans of explorers into the Phithi, a tumultuous environment that keeps the Uwando tribes apart and renders survival outside their sanctuaries nearly impossible.

Their goal is to forge diplomatic and trade connections, investigate and reclaim territories overrun by monsters and pirates, and, most crucially, to establish a new tree city that can serve as a sanctuary for the Mka and their allies. Regardless of whether their endeavors succeed or fail, the caravans are required to relay the experiences they gather back to the capital through crystospheres transported by traveling beetles.
