Tin Hearts is a cheerful 3D puzzle game that is full of love. The fact that it was made by developers who worked on the Fable series initially piqued my curiosity. I adore this heritage game series because of its distinct British charm in the world and character designs. Tin Hearts seems to have inherited those cozy sentiments.
When I first played the PC demo of Tin Hearts, I was surprised by the makers' ability to create a virtual reality game that didn't require pricey headgear. I wanted to know how well a game like that would do on the Switch. I'm happy to say that Tin Hearts is an experience filled with a metal heart that is far more valuable than tin.
Levels are arranged in spacious spaces like a Victorian-style garden or workshop. You can navigate these locations and change minor aspects of the environment because the game is played in the first person. Leading your warriors to the exit is the aim of each level. Since you don't have direct command of the soldiers at first, you have to lead them by positioning blocks in a specific direction on the level.
Casual players will find the game's mechanic, which restricts the blocks to predetermined placements, to be quite enticing. The training wheels are removed from the game before you realize it, and a vast array of things to interact with are added, along with loose bricks that may be placed wherever. You can bounce off drums, float in the air with balloons, and, as suggested, eventually take more direct control of the warriors.
The more you advance in the game, the more complicated things become. Experimenting with what works is a big part of the fun here. If things don't work out, errors can be readily fixed. Some will draw comparisons between this game and the well-known Lemmings series. A throwback classic in which you had to assign chores to little lemmings with blue sweaters and green hair to guide them to an exit. It's obvious that Tin Hearts comfortably distances itself from that series.
The overall atmosphere of the game is serene and soothing. It's not intended to cause you any stress. It gave me just enough difficulty to keep my interest and make me want to try the next puzzle. You can fast-forward or rewind the soldiers, among other mechanics. As a result, you may rapidly finish a level once you know you have solved the problem and swiftly fix mistakes like soldiers falling fatally. The soldiers can be stopped in position, which allows you to see their moving course with a dim glow. Blocks and other items are positioned precisely so they head in the required direction, which lets you create problems ahead of time.
