Astral Ascent, you are trapped in the Garden – a beautiful but unforgiving astral prison that floats in the sky. This celestial cage, ruled by a tyrannical entity known as the Master, is guarded by twelve mysterious and extremely powerful zodiac-based masters.
Your mission is simple but important: choose one of four unique heroes, fight through four unique and beautifully designed biomes, defeat the zodiac guardians, and escape. As with any true rogue-lite, death is not the end; it’s just one step in your meta progression, sending you back to the main hub area, unlocking permanent upgrades, changing roles, and planning your next celestial escape.

Combat is a beautiful dance of physical attacks and advanced magic. Attacking an enemy with your primary weapon will charge up your mana pool. Once full, you can cast powerful collectible spells. Hold four spells at once, looping through them one after the other. The catch? A favorite spell cannot be recast until you finish casting all four spells in your pool, forcing you to think dynamically in battle.
Deep Strategy and Aura Customization:
Your spellbook can be instantly modified with Gambits – these attributes can add up to four additional elemental attributes (such as fire, poison, or ooze) to a spell. Combine these with Auras (passive perks that swing around you like an automatic spectral sword) to create a synergistic and sharp screen build that makes each run feel completely different.
Breathtaking Pixel Art and Fluid Movement:
The visual presentation is top-notch. The smooth vintage-inspired spritework blends seamlessly with the vibrant modern visuals. The action is fluid and very responsive, featuring wall climbing, dashing, and double jumping. Even when boss battles enter chaotic “bullet hell” territory, tight controls ensure that you always feel like you’re in complete control of your character.
Co-op Seamless Mode:
You don’t have to just defy fate. The game features full local co-op for two players (and online co-op that can be played together remotely via Steam). If your partner falls in a frantic boss fight, the high-risk resurrection droid will allow you to bring them back if you can protect their body from enemy bullets.

Astral Ascent is a clever evolution of the action-robber genre. It manages to balance punishing, skill-based difficulty with a very rewarding sense of progression and lovely aesthetic design.
